Bucks County Homes – Chic French Style

french linen and mirrorBucks County Homes – Chic French Style. Discover the French aesthetic for your new living space by using these creative ideas to bring a chic, romantic style to your Bucks County Homes.

One key to French style decor in your Bucks County Apartments or Bucks County Homes is to incorporate an element of being un-done. A lovely French room rarely looks finished, is a bit tossed and lived in, looks a bit shabby – yet chic. Wrinkled linen pillows and chipped vintage framed mirrors or artworks are nice touches for  Bucks County Homes living rooms.

Tips on Moving Artwork

When it comes to moving artwork, preventing damage and getting the treasured piece to your new apartment or home is no small task. Depending on the number of pieces you own, antique art, family heirlooms, or new framed prints that express your personality, taking one day to care for these pieces and prepare them for a move will save you time and potential heartbreak in the future.

Paintings need special care when moving. Antique pieces or heavily framed ones will require efforts to prevent scratching and damage from the possibility of careless hands dropping them, or damage from being shoved into the moving vehicle. Coming in contact with other objects can crack frames, puncture canvases, flake paint pigments on artwork surface. To avoid serious damage I recommend first to wrap the entire painting in a soft cloth or blanket.

Next, bubble wrap is your best friend…and your artwork’s!

Be generous with the wrap, and make sure to use it in both directions on the painting, making extra sure to give the corners extra bubble coverage. Be sure to move paintings together and give them their own space in the moving van or truck, without the possibility of furniture falling against them.

Moving prints are another matter. If relocating one that is framed and covered in glass, which protects the art print, you have to take extra precautions to prevent serious damage. Broken glass can be trouble, not only in cleaning up aspects, and possible injury results, but broken glass often damages the print itself.

To prevent shards of broken glass from puncturing you print, place a checkerboard of blue painter’s tape in a grid over the glass from end to end. This protects the artwork should the glass break by helping you to easily lift off the shards without having them harm the photo print. This also will save your hands from cuts and injuries with handling broken glass. The painter’s tape is easy to remove once your artwork has been successfully transported to its new home. Remember to double bubble wrap glass framed prints also.

If you have artwork that is worth a significant amount of money, insurance is recommended. Get a certified appraisal to protect your antique art.

Remember to take the time and follow these easy steps to prevent loss or damage of your treasured artworks when moving into your new apartment.

Eclectic Interest

Quite an eclectic mix of style and antique wonders bleeds to the artistic in Liza Sherman’s apartment in Manhattan. The legendary antiques dealer is sharp, confident woman, possessing a quirkiness of a woman half her age. Her living space features an Italian daybed with burlap upholstery, a 1950s Hollywood style light, and a train rail cart as a cocktail table.

Her study features a French banner, a floating chair!, a 1940s French floor lamp and a vintage 1950s metal spring chair.  Eclecticism at its finest. Of decor style Sherman says, “I don’t decorate. I see objects and furniture as shapes, lines, and forms,” and that, “Perfect surfaces don’t interest me.”

Sherman’s master bedroom displays a portrait by Liam Ritt, the fireplace mantle serves as a headboard for the bed, a dresser from India along with framed 1920s bathing suits.

Retro Phones

I love retro phones…I would start my collection with this one: a pink Princess phone.  Introduced in 1959, this phone graced many of our mother’s desks or bedroom nightstands.  The ultimate classic.

I tend to go for a certain style of antique phone as you will see…like this Kettle Classic Desk phone I found at Bizrate.com.  The is an updated version that captures the classic 1930s European style.

Absolutely love this British 1950s 332 telephone. Don’t think it’s available but I had to show it here in its rare green color.  Found this and many other interesting phones at Retro Phones.

OMG! Absolutely beautiful ivory GECo Phone, circa 1930s on eBay.

Another cool and colorful eBay find: Red Antique GPO 332L with drawer.

Okay…away from the British phone invasion and back to America…This vintage yellow rotary phone, circa 1970s, looks just like my Mom’s! She still has hers, plugged in and working…and it’s 38-years-old!  So cool. I believe hers is a Bell.

Vintage Clocks

While checking around for some vintage/antique pieces that could really spice up a new apartment, I came across some vintage clocks that I remember seeing versions of as a child.  I fear I may be dating myself. In my age-ism defense, some of the decorative pieces I witnessed were probably older than me , so that said, feast your eyes on some of these clever decorative clocks, like this Classic Retro String clock.  It’s only about $85 at Vintage Looks.com.

Or this Atomic 50s Style Table Clock.  Love the retro-sci-fi look.

This Classic 50s Style Spike wall clock is one of my favorites.

Ahhh, to be away from the digital age….

All clocks can be found at Vintage Looks.
